What is Bolani?
Bolani
is a traditional Afghani flatbread stuffed and baked with either spinach,
pumpkin, red potato, or green lentil filling.
Bolani is usually served warm and
as a side-dish, appetizer, Hors d'œuvre, or even as a main dish.
It is the perfect diet food
because not only are they low in carbohydrates, calories, and fat, they
are high in nutrition such as protein, fiber, and vitamins.
Bolanis are also ideal for vegans or those looking for healthy
alternatives to meat products.
Packaging and Preparation:
Bolanis all come two in a pack and is already baked and
ready to eat. However, it is
recommended to warm them before serving. You
can use a conventional oven or a toaster oven for a crispy toast.
You may also pan-fry on a
non-stick pan using only a couple of drops of olive oil at the most.
Microwaving is generally not
recommended but if you so choose to, do not overheat as the Bolani may
become soggy.
Heating instructions in an
oven:
Heat for approximately 5 minutes at 375 degrees.
Heating instructions on a
non-stick pan:
Warm each side 3-4 minutes on medium heat.
Storage instructions:
Transfer Bolani’s to an air-tight zip-lock bag and keep
in the refrigerator for 10-14 days. If
freezing, separate the Bolanis with a wax sheet and transfer to an
air-tight zip-lock bag and keep in freezer for up to 4-5 weeks.
It may also be convenient to first
cut the Bolani’s in halves.
To warm up after freezing, take the Bolani’s out of the
freezer and let them defrost on the kitchen counter for about an hour.
Then apply any of the heating
instructions listed above.
